William H. DuBarry, Sigma, 1916, Phi Alpha 1950-1951
Brother DuBarry, upon graduation from the University of Pennsylvania, accepted a commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army and served overseas during World War I from 1917-1919.
Brother DuBarry returned to the university in 1923 as assistant to the Provost,
continuing in that post until 1931 when he became the director of scholarships and
student finances. In 1939, DuBarry was promoted to vice president, assistant to the
president, a newly-created position. He held that post until he was promoted to
executive vice president in 1944. In 1954, DuBarry was promoted to vice president for
the Corporation of the University. He held that position until his death in 1958. On
three separate occasions in 1950-1951, 1952 and 1953, DuBarry served as acting
president of the University.
Always active in the affairs of the Sigma chapter, Brother DuBarry served as president
of the Philadelpha Association of Zeta Psi and as a director of the association for many
years. In addition to being Phi Alpha, Brother DuBarry served as President of the Zeta
Psi Educational Foundation in 1951-1952.
