William A. Johnson

William A. Johnson, Kappa, 1860, Phi Alpha 1862-1863

(June 23, 1839 – March 13, 1864) 

William A. Johnson, Kappa, 1860, was an author, newspaper, reporter and editor. As an undergraduate, he was president of the Tufts’ Math Society and chairman of the Class Association.

After graduation, he was the Boston correspondent for the New York World, a reporter
for the Boston Daily Advertiser, editor of the Boston Morning Journal and editor of the
Boston Advertiser. In addition, he was the author of the History of the 5 th Massachusetts
Regiment.

Brother Johnson also served as the secretary of the Tufts College Alumni Association.
He regrettably died at the youthful age of 25.
