George Ludovic Bennet
George Ludovic Bennet, Rho, 1853, Phi Alpha 1857-1858
George Ludovic Bennet, Rho, 1853, Phi Alpha 1857-1858, was a well-respected New
York City attorney, a civic leader and one of the founding members of the Rho chapter
at Harvard University. He graduated from Harvard Law School in 1858.
Brother Bennet was author of The Origin and History of Voting by Ballot down to the
Formation of Constitution of the United States and many articles in the public press and
historical reviews.
His civic activities included membership in the New York Geographical Society, the New
York Historical Society and the Long Island Historical Society. He was an unsuccessful
Republican candidate for alderman in Brooklyn and as a member of the Kings County
Assembly.
Brother Bennet continued this involvement with Zeta Psi throughout his life. He was
chairman of the committee responsible for publishing the first Zeta Psi Catalogue in
1859.
