Honoring the Legacy of John Stelmach

John Stelmach, Theta ’75, lived a life defined by a passion for the stock market and a quiet loyalty . A proud Zete, he remained connected to Zeta Psi throughout his life, ultimately becoming a member of the Heritage Society and ensuring that his commitment to the Fraternity would endure far beyond his lifetime.

Known to many as “Wall Street John,” he built his career in New York City after graduating from University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Science in Finance. As an auditor for NASDAQ,  the position helped shape both his professional life and his personal interests.

While John lived a largely private life, his impact on Zeta Psi is anything but quiet. Through his estate, he made a transformational gift of more than $1.1 million to the Fraternity. As a longtime annual supporter, his decision to leave an unrestricted bequest reflects both his trust in Zeta Psi and his desire to see it thrive for generations to come.

His legacy will be felt in meaningful and lasting ways. A portion of his gift has also been designated to support the Theta Chapter Fund, to establish scholarships for undergraduate brothers of Theta in his name. In addition, John donated his extensive collection of books on stocks and investing, offering a resource for young Zetes who share his interest in the markets and his drive to learn.

John’s membership in the Heritage Society is a powerful example of how one brother’s foresight can shape the future of the Fraternity. His generosity ensures that opportunities will continue to be created , chapters will be strengthened, and brothers will be supported for years to come.

Zeta Psi will miss seeing John at events like the annual Founder’s Day Dinners in New York City, but his presence will continue to be felt in the lives he has impacted and the legacy he has secured.
