The 1847 Pledge Challenge: Impact, Momentum, and What Comes Next

The 1847 Pledge Challenge continues to be one of the most direct ways our brotherhood shows up for one another. This year, we set an ambitious goal: 1,350 participants each contributing $18.47 in support of Zeta Psi Fraternity, Inc. As a reminder, this gift supports the Fraternity directly and is not tax deductible, but its impact is immediate and tangible.

Building on last year’s evolution of the program, we again tied participation to meaningful support for our undergraduate chapters. Chapters that rallied participation unlocked real financial support in a discount on their Fall Chapter Fees:

•  25 participants: $500 off
•  50 participants: $1,000 off
•  100 participants: $2,000 off
•  200 participants: $3,800 off, covering full chapter fees

While we didn’t fully reach our goal of 1,350 participants, the response was nonetheless remarkable. This year, we saw 1,100 transactions and raised $92,877, having unlocked our $18,470.00 matching gift. There are still a few more matches to be collected that will raise the total! More importantly, your participation translated into real support:

•  $2,000 off: 1 chapter
•  $1,000 off: 6 chapters
•  $500 off: 10 chapters
•  United States: 14 participating chapters received a discount
•  Canada: 3 participating chapters received a discount

This year’s challenge featured incredible leadership and engagement across the brotherhood.

Overall Leader: University of Maryland – 112 participants
United States Leader: Lafayette College – 83 participants
Canada Leader: Queen’s University (Kingston, Ontario) – 50 participants
Overseas Leader: Deree, The American College of Greece – 6 participants

One of the most exciting storylines came from our Young Chapter Award. The University of Tennessee and the University of Alabama pushed each other throughout the challenge, finishing with 79 and 69 participants respectively in a true showdown that elevated both chapters. Well done to the University of Tennessee!

Beyond the headline numbers, one of the most important takeaways is where this support is landing.

Of the 17 participating chapters, 13 are either newer chapters or chapters with fewer than 30 members. These are the groups that benefit most from the financial relief tied to participation. For them, this challenge is not just symbolic, it directly improves the experience of every member by reducing financial pressure and increasing chapter sustainability.

That level of impact is exactly what this program was designed to achieve.

None of this happens without you. Every participant, every chapter leader, and every brother who helped organize or promote the challenge played a role in making this a success.

As we look toward next year, there is an opportunity to go even further. Consider introducing a matching component, setting up a dedicated donation page for your chapter, and building early momentum to bring even more brothers into the effort. If you have an idea of how we can help your chapter succeed in next year’s challenge, we would love to chat. Get in touch with a member of the Zeta Psi staff team for more information.

The 1847 Pledge Challenge is not just about participation. It is about showing what is possible when the brotherhood moves together.
