Zeta Psi regularly recognizes those who distinguish themselves through exceptional displays of leadership, dedication, and generosity. Below is a list of all awards that Zeta Psi bestows, as well as those worthy individuals and chapters who have received this recognition.

Individual Awards

The Distinguished Service Award is Zeta Psi’s highest alumni award, only given for special and outstanding long-term service. This award is not necessarily given every year. The following are all the brothers who have received this award.

The James J. Carey Leadership Award is named in honor of Past Phi Alpha, James J. Carey and is awarded to a brother who exhibits outstanding leadership qualities.

The Henry Elliot Service Award is given out for volunteer service to Zeta Psi, for activities and/or actions throughout the calendar year.

The Alumni Advisor of the Year Award is presented in an effort to recognize our many alumni volunteers who devote many valuable hours to our undergraduate chapters.

The James McLaughlin Interfraternal Award is presented to an individual who shows tremendous sustained leadership in support of the Interfraternal movement. This award is not limited to members of Zeta Psi.

 

The Red Grange Sportsman of the Year Award recognizes outstanding achievement in sports. Available to either undergraduates or alumni.

The Douglas P. Donaldson Young Alumni of the Year Award was initiated for the 2021 Convention. It honors both past Phi Alpha Douglas P. Donaldson, Theta 1972, and a young alumnus, under the age of 32 for outstanding achievements within the Fraternity.

 

The George S. Woodhull Phi Alpha’s Award is Zeta Psi’s highest merit-based award given to an outstanding undergraduate for contributions made to his school, chapter, or Zeta Psi.

The Outstanding Alumni Award is presented for sustained alumni contributions, of time, talent, or financial support.

The Award of Merit may be given for singular or multiple tasks of special contributions/volunteer work, either to the local chapter, the Grand Chapter or the Educational Foundation.

The Outstanding Undergraduate Award celebrates those undergraduates who go above and beyond their duties in the active chapter and community.

The Gold and Silver Circle Awards are presented annually to Zetes that have been Elders for 50 or 25 years, respectively.

The Arthur “Red” Motley Service Award started in 2022, this award is given to a member of the Zeta Psi Staff whose daily devotion and dedicated service to Zeta Psi and all Zeta Psi Brothers, exemplifies the exceptional career, service and life of Arthur H. “Red” Motley.

Brother Motley, Alpha Beta 1922, started his service to Zeta Psi as Assistant
General Secretary in 1922, ascended to General Secretary in 1923, serving until
1928, then returned to Zeta Psi to serve as Phi Alpha from 1943 to 1945.

Chapter Awards

The Gregory E. McElroy Chapter of the Year Award was first awarded in 2021. Awarded to the undergraduate chapter that has adhered the most to the ideal chapter model throughout the year.

The William A. Comstock Award is one of Zeta Psi’s most coveted chapter awards, presented to the group that best exemplifies the Vision of Bill Comstock.

The William R. Duryee Award recognizes the efforts and achievements of the chapter that demonstrated the strongest commitment to academic success during the past year.

 

The John Birchfield Communication Award is presented to the chapter that demonstrates the most exemplary communications practices on both internal and external levels.

Awarded to an undergraduate chapter that shows outstanding performance throughout the year.

Awarded to an undergraduate chapter that shows outstanding performance throughout the year.

Awarded to an undergraduate chapter that shows exemplary performance throughout the year.

The Gold and Silver Chapter Escutcheon Awards are awarded to the undergraduate chapters that shows exemplary Ritual performance throughout the year.

The McElroy Order of Excellence was awarded to any chapter that has received a gold chapter award for three consecutive years. Named in honor of Phi Alpha CXXVI, Greg McElroy (Phi, ’70).

This award has been retired and succeeded by the Gregory E. McElroy Chapter of the Year Award.
