40 Under 40 – Thomas Nogueira

Aside from going above and beyond for his local Pi Tau chapter, Thomas Nogueira is also making strides in following his passions in the Massachusetts technology sector. A Director of Manufacturing Operations at Desktop Metal, Thomas and his team have been working towards creating the next generation of 3D-printing technologies. His contributions to the Pi Tau chapter as an elder brother have played a tremendous part in helping the chapter thrive in recent years.

“I attended WPI starting in 2001 to study chemical engineering with limited knowledge of fraternities and no intention of joining one. The fraternity culture at WPI had a strong rooted history which quickly became very evident to me in my freshman year. I was instantly drawn to the brotherhood at the Pi Tau chapter and am forever grateful for making the decision to join. I had the opportunity to serve as Rush Chairman, Secretary and President in my undergraduate years and eventually Alumni Representative and Elder President as an alumni. I also served as the Intramurals Chairman for the IFC on campus which allowed me to meet great men from many other fraternities. This was a rewarding experience and also drove home for me how special Zeta Psi really was. Through these experiences, I faced many challenges and learned valuable life lessons at a young age that prepared me to be a strong leader. There are not many experiences I face professionally today that I cannot relate to lessons I learned through Zeta Psi. In addition to these valuable lessons, I now have a strong rooted family of brothers that I am still very close with now some 13 years after graduation. They are there for me and my family through the good times and the bad and I have Zeta Psi to thank for that.”

“I graduated from WPI in 2005 with a bachelor of science in Chemical Engineering and started my career with General Electric. I graduated from GE’s Operations Management Leadership Program (OMLP) in 2007 and have continued to serve in technical leadership roles since. After leaving GE to move closer to family and my future wife, I spent 9 years working on Lithium Ion battery development for a variety of custom applications like Formula One race cars and low cost energy storage. Many of my experiences have been in fast paced start up environments with limited budgets and team oriented work environments. My experiences at Zeta Psi were undoubtedly an amazing training ground for my professional endeavors. As we all brothers know, finances in the house are always tight and working and living as a team is crucial to the livelihood of the brotherhood! Currently, I am working for a groundbreaking startup company called Desktop Metal. We are bringing to market first of it’s kind metal 3D printing capable of safely producing custom metal parts in an office environment. I am responsible for Manufacturing Operations and Supply Chain for the company and am honored to be working with such an intelligent and inspiring group of professionals.”

“I am a proud husband to Kaitlyn and father to two beautiful children, Maximus and Hazel. I am a die hard Boston sports fan and proud to say I was at Super Bowl 51 with my wife and a fellow Zeta Psi brother to watch the Patriots execute one of the greatest comebacks in sports history. “
