Edward Summers is currently the Chief Strategy and Planning Officer at Long Island University. His profile includes oversight of the University’s Strategic planning and implementation process; Global College, where students spend 8 semesters in 8 different countries; University’s Assessment and Accreditation; the Hornstein Center for Polling, Policy, and Analysis; Generations Institute; Sanford Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship; Sanford Education; Sanford Institute for Philanthropy; Office of the President; Office of the Board of Trustees; Student-Run Businesses; and the University’s Wellness programs.
Prior to this post, Edward has held high ranking roles at the Brooklyn Education Innovation Network (BE.IN), Union College, and Marist College. He is one of the youngest executives in higher education and a prominent voice on issues such as access to higher education, cost, affordability, management of higher education, developing sound community and government relations programs, and institutional effectiveness and management. He also conducts research on politics, community and economic development, housing policy, and political processes and democracy. While an undergrad he was president of the Marist chapter and led many on-campus organizations.
Edward is the recipient of several awards and honors including: Marist College Young Alumnus Award; Tri-State Consortium of Opportunity Programs Distinguished Alumni Award; 40 Under 40 “Shaker Award” From the Greater Southern Dutchess Chamber of Commerce; National Society of Leadership and Success; and Marist Alumni Leadership Award. He holds a B.A. and MPA from Marist College and a M.Phil, and Ph.D. from The New School.
