Awards

Every year, Zeta Psi recognizes those who distinguish themselves through exceptional leadership, effort and generosity. Below is a list of the individual awards that Zeta Psi bestows.

If you would like to nominate an individual for an award, please do so by scrolling to the bottom of the page and clicking the check box. You many nominate any individual once per year. Awards are given annually at Convention (usually in August).

Outstanding Undergraduate Award: An award given out to the Outstanding Undergraduate from each chapter. The chapter usually votes on this award, and notes it on the Year End Report. There is one winner from each active chapter. From this pool of winners, the Phi Alpha’s Award winners are usually BUT NOT ALWAYS chosen.

Phi Alpha’s Award: Given to an outstanding undergraduate for contributions made to his school, chapter, or Zeta Psi. Other factors may be community service and GPA.

Award of Merit: This award may be given for singular or multiple tasks of special contributions/volunteer work, either to the local chapter, the Grand Chapter or the Educational Foundation. Zeta Psi usually awards approximately 10 per year. Usually reserved for alumni, undergraduates are also eligible for this award. Greek Advisors and other Non-Zeta Psi members are also eligible.

Outstanding Alumni: This is a more advanced award than the Award of Merit. It is usually given for sustained (ongoing) Alumni contributions, of time, talent, or financial support. Zeta Psi usually awards three to six per year.

The Distinguished Service Award: Our Highest Alumni Award. Only given for special and outstanding long-term service. This award is not necessarily given every year.

The Henry Elliot Volunteer of the Year Award: This award is given out for volunteer service to Zeta Psi, for activities and/or actions during the past “Convention year.” Zeta Psi awards only one per year.

The Alumni Advisor of the Year: An award given to an Alumni Advisor. It is an attempt to recognize our many alumni volunteers who devote many hours to the Undergraduate chapters. We only award one per year. This award may be presented to a non-Zete working with one of our chapters.

The James H. McLaughlin Interfraternity Service Award: This award is given to someone who has made numerous contributions to the Fraternity world. This award does not have to be given out every year and both Brothers of Zeta Psi and non-brothers are eligible for this award. Prior winners have been faculty advisors, Greek advisors, and leaders of other fraternities.

The James Carey Leadership Award: Awarded to a brother who exhibits outstanding leadership qualities.

The Red Grange Sportsman of the Year Award: Awarded to recognize outstanding achievement in sports. Available to either undergraduates or alumni. 2008 was the first year it was awarded.

The John Birchfield Communications Award: Awarded to the chapter with the most outstanding communications program, with a focus on chapter website and alumni/active newsletters. However, other aspects (social media, for example) are also considered.
